High Price Heating Oil - The Green Alternative
High Heating Oil Prices? The ‘Green’ Alternative
As oil reaches its peak in terms of ease of production, the cost is going nowhere but up and this will happen rapidly over the next few years.
We’ve all felt that nip in the air that means we are about to dip into our oil reserves again for another winter. Once again it’s hit consumers hard to fill the oil tank, with the obvious concern as to how much it will cost next year. There is also the concern of theft from rural areas, and with the average bill as much as £1500.00 per year it’s not surprising the expression ‘liquid gold’ is being used and theft is on the rise.
Approximately two million homes rely on oil for heating with most in rural areas. If good news is needed at this point - there is an alternative. Renewable energy options suit the home and business perfectly, reducing heating costs and providing hot water - whilst reducing your carbon footprint and in some cases boosting the bank balance.
A focus on Solar Thermal and take advantage of a £300 grant
How old is your boiler? The older it is the harder it has to work, and the more it will cost as lime scale builds up over time. Daylight is something we can all benefit from and costs nothing at all. Solar thermal will provide almost all your requirements throughout the summer and an average of 70% year round. Easy to install, on a south; east or west facing roof, it requires no planning permission and little maintenance. A simple heat transfer system uses energy to heat water in a twin-coil hot water cylinder, storing it for later use. Solar Thermal qualifies for the Government’s renewable heat incentive (RHI), due to be introduced this year. This will provide benefits year on year– cutting CO2 emissions by around 325kg.
A focus on Heat Pumps and take advantage of an £800 grant
Air Source Heat Pumps - Air is all around us and it’s free!
These systems provide heating and hot water throughout the year – even on the coldest of days, and operate 3 to 5 times more efficiently than a traditional heating system - drastically reducing fuel bills. A fan draws in outside air and the heat contained is transferred to a refrigeration circuit which converts it to hot water, heating your home beautifully while providing ample hot water. Installation is simple and you begin saving right away. Ground Source Heat Pumps…. Bringing the outside in
Ground Source Heat Pumps - Bringing the outside in
The ground stays at a fairly constant temperature all year round. Collecting stored solar energy from the garden, the pump uses "free" energy to heat conventional radiators or under floor heating. The only cost is the electricity that runs the circulating pumps, compressor and control systems - but, of course there are renewable energy solutions for this too. Circulating a mix of water and antifreeze around a ground loop buried in your garden/land, the heat is absorbed into fluid and passes through a heat exchanger into the pump.
