Commercial Heating Systems - Heat Pumps

Commercial Heat Pump Heating Systems

As leading specialists in commercial air-source and ground-source heat pump system design and installation, Save Energy Group can deliver a flexible, efficient and highly economical heating, cooling and hot water solution - future-proofing your business from spiralling fossil fuel costs while providing a highly marketable green 'Eco' credential.

There are significant heat pump installation grants available (up to 50% for Education, Local Government, Charities and Not-for-Profit organisations) under the Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2 and heat pump systems comply with many common building regulations and requirements.

Heat Pumps are among the most efficient heating and hot water systems available, as approximately 75% of the energy needed for heating is extracted from the environment (air or ground) around us.
Heat pumps can therefore provide an efficiency of 300-400% as for every 1 kWh of electricity used to power them, between 3-4 kWh of heating energy is produced.

Additionally, the Government has proposed, but not yet finalised, feed-in tariff payments for both Air-Source & Ground-Source Heat Pump Systems:

Air Source Heat Pumps - 7.5p/kWh - Tariff Duration: 18years
Small Ground-Source (Ground-source heat pumps) - Less than 100 kWth - 4.3p / kWh
Large Ground-Source (Deep Geothermal systems) - 100 kWth and above - 3p / kWh

Commercial Heat Pump Applications & Benefits

Heat Pumps are a natural solution for social housing & new build developments, communal property management associations, schools & colleges, retail & commerce outlets and public or community buildings as they have a very low impact on the environment and require minimal maintenance.

For larger applications, multiple high output units can be commonly linked together to deliver an efficient solution for multi-occupancy dwellings or business units.

Businesses can benefit from heat pump systems in many ways:

  • They offer low end-user running costs;
  • There are negligible maintenance requirements
  • There are no annual inspection requirements;
  • They comply with higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes;
  • They meet local planning requirements to incorporate Renewable Energy into new buildings (under the 'Merton Rule');
  • They offer 50% lower emissions than gas boilers, so contribute towards Building Regulations Part L compliance;

Designing Your Heat Pump System

When designing a heat pump driven commercial heating system, there are many factors that need to be explored in order to achieve an optimum solution for your business.

From our first conversation we will look in detail at what you and your business hope to achieve and from this information we can assess which heat pump system design can realistically deliver your objectives.

In the case of Ground-Source heat pumps we will take into the account the surrounding area in terms of the amount of land available to house a ground loop system. Following a survey of the property and its immediate environment, detailed analysis and calculations will be made, as under- or over-sizing cannot be tolerated and will ultimately render the project more costly.

If space is an issue, a bore-hole system could be incorporated and will involve a geological report of the area. Certain parts of the UK, for example, are better than others for this type of heat pump installation and Save Energy will carry out due diligence to ensure we achieve the best and most cost-effective outcome for you.

Air-Source heat pump systems are considered an easier option, although once again involve a technical survey to assess building loads. The electrical systems within the property also need to be considered and assessed as the larger the building is, the larger the electrical system that is required.

As commercial renewable energy consultants, Save Energy Group are specialists in heat pump applications - if you would like us to assess your property or premises for suitability for a heat pump system we are only a phone call away… We will be happy to discuss your options frankly and arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
